The FEF was started by Lyndon LaRouche in 1974 as a vehicle for initiating ground breaking scientific research into nuclear fusion and similar technologies. President Ronald Reagan's adoption of Lyndon LaRouche's proposal for the Strategic Defense Initiative in 1983 was its crowning achievement followed by the forced bankruptcy and shutdown of the organization (along with 2 other publications) in 1987 by the federal government under orders of Henry Kissinger.
