<reviewbody> This is pretty damn chilling as far as I'm concerned. The NSA is about 7 or 8 times the size of the CIA. I had always been under the impression that the NSA's mission was to collect foreign intelligence not domestic.
The new facility in Utah could be thought of as one huge flashdrive used to store data on Americans, evidently all Americans, that could be used in the future for prosecution. Why target and subject all Americans to this and subvert the Constitution? It implicity implies that all Americans are guilty of something. Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty? and going after the bad guys? THe FBI etc. had been tipped off prior to 911 and could have prevented it. The Russians provided information that could have prevented the Boston Marathon incident etc. Now the distinction between good and bad guys is becoming increasingly blurred. I thought the NSA, FBI, CIA, TSA, etc. were supposed to be on our side? I'm beginning to wonder.
Not doing anything wrong, you have nothing to worry about? You might want to rethink that. Plenty in this Society who would rat out their own mother to cut a deal with those hungry for a prosecution.
Furthermore it appears that more and more Americans in general appear to accept these new invasions into privacy. As they themselves participate in it, enboldened by a false sense of anonymity and empowered with their various new Tech toys. The factors in the Culture are already in place which allow these sorts of activities to thrive in the Society at large. I can't even go to the grocery store anymore, without the common classes imposing themselves on me wanting to count and analyze the peanuts out of my shit.</reviewbody>
